A DirectSmile calendar is a desk calendar in which each recipient's name appears written inside all 12 photographs and on the cover, integrated into the scene, not printed on top. From a single list of names, a different version is produced for each person.
What DirectSmile is and why the name looks photographed.
DirectSmile is the software that invented variable-data image personalization. It was born in Germany, is now part of EFI, and is used by printers all over Europe for direct marketing campaigns, greeting cards and calendars.
Each scene is prepared just once: we define the surface where the name will go (the sand, a blackboard, a trail in the sky), its perspective, the material and the light. Then DirectSmile generates a new image for every name on your list, in high resolution and ready to print.
The result is not a label or floating text. The name sinks into the sand, lights up in the neon and dissolves into the clouds just as it would if someone had written it there before the photo was taken. That's why whoever receives it doesn't think it's a mass-produced item.

What is DirectSmile?
DirectSmile is variable-data image personalization software. From a list of names, it generates a different version of each photograph with the name integrated into the scene (written in the sand, in the snow, in a neon sign, in the clouds), calculating perspective, texture and light so it looks as if it was photographed there.
What is a DirectSmile calendar?
It is a calendar in which each recipient's name appears inside all 12 photos and on the cover. From a single list of names, a different calendar is produced for each person, with the logo and details of the company giving it.
Is it the same as adding the name with artificial intelligence or an online template?
No. An online template overlays the text on top of the photo. Artificial intelligence generates each image from scratch and can distort letters or change the scene from one name to the next. DirectSmile starts from photographs prepared just once and writes every name with the same quality and the same result across all 12 photos, for hundreds or thousands of recipients.
How much does a DirectSmile calendar cost?
Between €4.71 and €13.96 per unit excl. VAT, depending on quantity, from 50 units. The price is fixed: it includes design, personalization of every name, printing, binding and delivery across Europe. There are no setup fees and no charge for proofs.
Do you ship the calendars outside Spain?
Yes. Delivery is included in the price to 49 European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the Nordic countries. We produce in Barcelona and ship the whole order to the address you give us.
What is the minimum order and the delivery time?
The minimum is 50 calendars. We produce within a maximum of 15 working days from when you approve the proof and payment is received, plus transit time.
Can I use my own photos with DirectSmile?
Yes. With the bespoke option we prepare your photos so the name blends into them. Each of your own photos costs €110 in design, once per order, and you can combine them with scenes from the catalogue.
Can the calendar be in another language?
Yes. Months, days and public holidays can be in the language and country of your recipients, and several versions can be produced in a single order.
